Open EdTech 2009

The New Media Consortium and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya have produced an interesting document resulting from the Open EdTech 2009 meeting, on October 19 and 20 of this year . “A call to action” presents a series of conclusions that coincide with the proposals that we made on the other side of the ocean in the framework of our research.

Some considerations of the document translated into Spanish:

“… The mandate of this new university is to provide an excellent education in an open access environment, based on four main ideas:

1. Access to the contents of a quality education must be accessible to all, and open

2. Informal learning and tutoring are effective and well-proven for the

engagement with young people and stimulating critical thinking.

3. Personalized learning is essential for student success, but it also requires learning standards that allow students to continue learning where life takes them.

4. Tools like digital video, mobile devices, social media, and the global network all play an important role in learning and must be available to all students.

Some strong ideas:

1) We must encourage the reuse and remixing of content. Portability of content.

2) Mobile devices as learning platforms

3) Awarding of credits for the results obtained regardless of where the learning process has been carried out, overcoming the traditional forms of the official program and the classroom as “official” accreditors.

4) Allow the culture of sharing

It is worth reading the proposal in English and following these considerations in the future. We always comply with squarespace accessibility guidelines provided to us to ensure easy access for everyone.
